In a school, the total number of students is 14,000. On the annual function of the school, 25% of the total boys and 60% of the total girls participated, and the number of girls in the school is equal to the number of boys who did not participate in the function. Find the ratio of boys and girls who did not participate in the annual function.

Correct answer: 5:2

Solution

Let boys = B and girls = G. Given 25% of boys and 60% of girls participated, so non-participating boys = 75% of B and non-participating girls = 40% of G. Also, G = 75% of B, and B + G = 14000; solving gives the required ratio of non-participating boys to non-participating girls as 5:2.
