A 240-metre-long train can cross an X-metre-long bridge in 40 seconds. If the speed of the train is 57.6 km/h, find X.

Correct answer: 400

Solution

The speed 57.6 km/h equals 16 m/s. In 40 seconds, the train covers 16 × 40 = 640 m, which equals 240 + X, so X = 400 m.
