In a mixture, the ratio of liquid A and liquid B is 3:2. If 5 litres of the mixture are drawn out and in the final mixture the quantity of liquid A is 12 litres more than liquid B, then find the initial quantity of liquid A in the mixture.

  1. 36 litre
  2. 39 litre
  3. 32 litre
  4. 45 litre

Correct answer: 39 litre

Solution

Let the initial quantities be 3x and 2x. When 5 litres are removed, A and B are removed in the ratio 3:2, so the remaining difference between A and B becomes 12 litres. Solving gives x = 13, hence initial A = 3x = 39 litres.
