If $a-b=3$ and $a^2+b^2=29$, find the value of $ab$.

Correct answer: 10

Solution

From $(a-b)^2=a^2+b^2-2ab$, we get $9=29-2ab$. So $2ab=20$ and hence $ab=10$.
