Questions
Q1. The information below is about the total number of girls and boys who appeared and did not appear in an exam from three different schools, A, B, and C. The total number of students in all the schools is 350, out of which 150 students are in B. Boys in A are equal to girls in C. Boys in C are equal to girls in A, i.e., 25. The number of boys and girls in B is equal. In A, 20% of the boys did not appear in the exam, which is five more than the girls who appeared in the examination. In B, the number of girls who did not appear is equal to the number of boys who did not appear in B. The total number of students who did not appear in the exam is 40. In C, the ratio of students who did not appear to those who appeared in the exam is 1:1. Forty-five girls did not appear for the exam. The ratio of total students in D to total students who did not appear in the exam from C is 3:5. The total number of girls in D is 20% less than the total number of boys who did not appear in A. Find the total number of boys in D.

Answer: 18
Using the given totals and equalities, the numbers in A, B, and C can be fixed consistently. The total boys who did not appear in A is then used to find girls in D, and the ratio of total students in D to non-appeared students in C gives the total in D. Subtracting girls from total students in D yields 18 boys.
