Questions

Q1. The total number of bags (paper + fabric) in shops A, B, and C is 2160. Shop A has 25% more bags than shop B. The ratio of paper to fabric bags in A is 4:5. The number of paper bags in B is 30 less than the number of fabric bags in B. Shop C has 25% fewer bags than shop B. The ratio of paper to fabric bags in C is 3:2. The average number of paper, fabric, and plastic bags in B is equal to the number of paper bags in A. What is the sum of the average number of paper and fabric bags in A and the average number of paper and fabric bags in B?

  1. 800
  2. 810
  3. 795
  4. 785

Answer: 810

Let the total bags in B be x. Then A = 1.25x and C = 0.75x, so 1.25x + x + 0.75x = 2160, giving x = 720. Hence A = 900 and C = 540. In A, paper:fabric = 4:5, so paper = 400 and fabric = 500. In B, paper = fabric - 30 and paper + fabric = 720, so paper = 345 and fabric = 375. The required sum is the average of paper and fabric in A plus the average of paper and fabric in B: (400+500)/2 + (345+375)/2 = 450 + 360 = 810.
