Total bags (paper + fabric) in shops A, B, and C = 2160. A has 25% more bags than B. The ratio of paper to fabric bags in A is 4:5. In B, the number of paper bags is 30 less than the number of fabric bags. C has 25% fewer bags than B. The ratio of paper to fabric bags in C is 3:2. The average number of paper, fabric, and plastic bags in B is equal to the number of paper bags in A. Out of the total bags in A, 75% of the paper bags and 50% of the fabric bags are sold. Find the ratio of unsold paper bags to unsold fabric bags in A.
- 2:5
- 5:2
- 3:4
- 8:5
Correct answer: 2:5
Solution
Let bags in A be split in the ratio 4:5, so paper and fabric are proportional to 4 and 5. If 75% of paper is sold, 25% remains; if 50% of fabric is sold, 50% remains. Thus unsold paper : unsold fabric = $25\%\times 4 : 50\%\times 5 = 1 : 2.5 = 2:5$.
