What will be the respective ratio of savings of V and D? I. Income of V is 4% less than that of S, and the ratio of expenditure of V to that of S is 7:8. D spends two-thirds of his income. II. S saves ₹14,000 and V saves ₹14,800. Income of D is ₹2,000 more than that of S.

  1. Only statement I is sufficient
  2. Only statement II is sufficient
  3. Statement I and II both together is sufficient
  4. Either statement I or Statement II alone is sufficient

Correct answer: Statement I and II both together is sufficient

Solution

Statement I gives relationships among income and expenditure, but not exact values, so the savings ratio cannot be found alone. Statement II gives savings of S and V and a relation involving D’s income, but still does not fully determine D’s savings alone. Together, the two statements allow the required ratio of savings of V and D to be determined.
