A and B started a business, and their investment was in the ratio of 4:5, respectively. At the end of a year the 30% of the dividend is equally distributed, and the remaining dividend is distributed in their profit share. If the difference between the dividend share of A and B is ₹280, then find the total profit (in ₹)?

  1. 3200
  2. 3600
  3. 3800
  4. 4000

Correct answer: 3600

Solution

Let total profit = P. Equal portion (30%): 0.15P each. Proportional portion (70%): A gets (4/9)×0.7P, B gets (5/9)×0.7P. Difference = B − A = (5/9 − 4/9)×0.7P = (0.7/9)P = 280. P = 280 × 9/0.7 = 280 × 9 × 10/7 = 3600.
