A shirt manufacturer marked the price of a shirt 25% above the cost price and then gave two successive discounts of 20% and 5%. If the cost price of a shirt is Rs. 1500, what is the selling price of the shirt?

Correct answer: 1425
Solution
The marked price is 25% above Rs. 1500, so MP = Rs. 1875. After a 20% discount, price becomes Rs. 1500; after a further 5% discount, it becomes Rs. 1425. Therefore, the selling price is Rs. 1425.
