Questions

Q1. Six authors U, V, W, X, Y, and Z were honoured in an award ceremony in six different months: January, March, April, June, August, and September, and were honoured for their novels Animal Farm, Beloved, Moby-Dick, Jane Eyre, Little Women, and The Alchemist. No two persons were honoured in the same month. The given information is not necessarily in the same order. Z was honoured three months after V. The person who wrote The Alchemist was honoured three months after the one who wrote Jane Eyre. Only three persons were honoured between the authors of Moby-Dick and Animal Farm. W was honoured just before the author of Beloved but was not the author of Moby-Dick. The author of Little Women was honoured in the month that has an even number of days. X was honoured before U. The author of Animal Farm was honoured after Z. Neither Animal Farm nor Beloved was written by U. X was not the first author to be honoured. Who among the following was honoured four months after the author of Little Women?

  1. X
  2. V
  3. W
  4. Y

Answer: W

Using the month gaps, the authors and books can be arranged uniquely across January, March, April, June, August, and September. Little Women falls in a month such that four months later corresponds to W. Hence, W was honoured four months after the author of Little Women.

Q2. Six people — A, B, C, D, E, and F — were part of a company in various posts. They were posted in the cities Bombay, Nainital, Chennai, Jaipur, Kolkata, and Allahabad. The order of ranks of these posts is Probationary Officer, Manager, Chief Manager, Divisional Manager, and Chief Executive Officer, where CEO is the highest post. It is known that E was ranked just above the person posted in Chennai. F was not posted in Jaipur. There were two people ranked between the person working in Kolkata and A, where the former was above the latter. C, who was in Nainital, was ranked just lower than the Chief Manager. The person posted in Allahabad was ranked higher than the person posted in Jaipur but lower than the person posted in Bombay. Only one person was ranked between B and D, where B was ranked higher than D. E was not a Divisional Manager. Which among the following is true?

  1. D is the Chief manager
  2. A is the Manager
  3. F is in higher post than B
  4. A works in Allahabad

Answer: D is the Chief manager

This is a multi-constraint arrangement puzzle involving ranks and cities. From the clue that C is in Nainital and just below the Chief Manager, and the city-order relation Bombay > Allahabad > Jaipur, the arrangement forces D to occupy the Chief Manager position. The other options do not remain consistent with the full set of constraints.

Q3. Three floors, two flats per floor (A is west of B). Each flat has an area of 576 sq ft. Each flat has different rooms. - One flat on an even floor has a room area of 64 sq ft. - The total number of rooms on floor 3 is 7. - The flat with 72 sq ft rooms is on an odd floor. - The flat below the 9-room flat has room area of 288 sq ft. - One floor lies between the 192 sq ft and 72 sq ft room flats. - No flat is west of the 6-room flat. Which of the following is true? I. The total number of rooms on the 1st floor is 10. II. The area of each room is 94 sq ft in flat A on floor 1. III. The total number of rooms in flat A is 15.

  1. All are correct
  2. None is correct
  3. Only I
  4. Only II

Answer: Only I

From the clues, the arrangement forces the 1st floor total rooms to be 10, while the other statements do not match the derived room counts. Since each flat has area 576 sq ft, a room area of 94 sq ft is not consistent with an integer number of rooms, and flat A does not have 15 rooms. Therefore only statement I is true.

Q4. Seven friends Priya, Shreya, Julie, Neha, Pallavi, Asha, and Rekha use mobile phones of seven different brands, viz. Samsung, Nokia, Oppo, Vivo, Apple, Realme, and Redmi, but not necessarily in the same order. Also, these seven people are registered on three different networks, namely Airtel, Jio, and Idea. At least two persons are registered on one network. Julie is registered on Airtel. Asha uses either Nokia or Vivo. Pallavi is registered on one of the networks only with the person who uses Nokia. Asha is registered on the same network as the Redmi user. Either Priya or Rekha uses Redmi. Priya and Julie are registered on the same network along with the Oppo user. Shreya is registered on Jio. The Apple user is not registered on Airtel. Priya does not use Samsung. Which among the following combinations represents the people registered on the Idea network?

  1. Neha and Pallavi
  2. Priya and Asha
  3. Neha and Rekha
  4. Asha and Rekha

Answer: Asha and Rekha

Using the clues, Julie, Priya, and the Oppo user must be on the same network, and Shreya is on Jio. Since Pallavi is paired only with the Nokia user on one network, the remaining network assignments force Asha and Rekha onto Idea. The combination that fits all conditions is Asha and Rekha.

Q5. Seven sports — Football, Cricket, Kabaddi, Squash, Hockey, Archery, and Tennis — are played in an indoor stadium in a week starting from Monday, not necessarily in the same order. Cricket is played on the last day of the week. More than two sports are played between Squash and Football. Hockey is played on Thursday. Football is played on one of the days after Archery. Squash is played five days before the day Cricket is played. Tennis is played three days before Hockey. Hockey is played one of the days before Kabaddi. On which day is Football played with respect to Kabaddi?

  1. Immediately after
  2. Immediately before
  3. Two days before
  4. Two days after

Answer: Immediately after

Cricket is on Sunday and Hockey is on Thursday, so Squash must be on Tuesday. Tennis is three days before Hockey, so it is on Monday. With the remaining constraints, Kabaddi falls on Friday and Football on Saturday. Therefore, Football is immediately after Kabaddi.

Q6. Directions: Read the following information and answer the question given below. Five people A, B, C, D and E played some cricket matches: 52, 39, 16, 75, 46 in five different months: January, April, May, June, and August, but not necessarily in the same order. - The one who played 46 matches played in a month having 30 days. - Only one person played between the one who played 46 matches and D. - E played the matches just before C. - The one who played 75 matches played last. - Only one person played between C and D. - The one who played 16 matches played just before the one who played 46 matches. - A played before B. - More than 2 people played between E and B. Based on the same data as Question 76, who played the least number of matches?

  1. A
  2. B
  3. C
  4. E

Answer: E

The clues force a unique arrangement of people, months, and match counts. From the completed arrangement, E is assigned 16 matches, which is the least among 52, 39, 16, 75, and 46.
