Q.30 A mathematical idealization of a crane has three bars with their vertices arranged as shown in the figure, with a load of 80 kN hanging vertically. The coordinates of the vertices are given in parentheses. The force in member QR, \(F_{QR}\), will be

Solution

The crane can be analyzed as a pin-jointed truss. By applying joint equilibrium using the geometry from the coordinates, the force in member QR comes out to be 50 kN in tension.
