The average of 12 numbers is 15 and the average of the first two is 14. What is the average of the remaining numbers?
- 15
- 15.2
- 14
- 14.5
Correct answer: 15.2
Solution
The total of 12 numbers is 12 × 15 = 180. The first two numbers total 2 × 14 = 28, so the remaining 10 numbers total 180 - 28 = 152. Their average is 152/10 = 15.2.
