If the average of ten numbers is 50 and the average of the first six numbers is 45, what is the average of the last four numbers?
- 55
- 62.5
- 60
- 57.5
Correct answer: 57.5
Solution
The sum of ten numbers is 10 × 50 = 500. The sum of the first six numbers is 6 × 45 = 270, so the sum of the last four numbers is 500 - 270 = 230. Their average is 230/4 = 57.5.
