Suman and Sujata travel the same distance at speeds of 10 km/h and 12 km/h respectively. If Suman takes 36 minutes more than Sujata, the distance traveled by each is:

Correct answer: 36 km

Solution

The difference in times is 36 minutes = 0.6 hour. For the same distance \(d\), the time difference is \(\frac{d}{10}-\frac{d}{12}\). Solving gives \(d\left(\frac{1}{60}\right)=0.6\), so \(d=36\) km.
