A sum of money invested at compound interest amounts to three times itself in 5 years. In how many years will it become 27 times itself?
- 12 years
- 15 years
- 18 years
- 20 years
Correct answer: 15 years
Solution
If the money becomes 3 times in 5 years, then every 5 years it is multiplied by 3. To become 27 times, we need $27=3^3$, i.e., three such periods. Hence, time required is $3\times 5=15$ years.
