A total of ₹2200 is invested in three parts at 1%, 2%, and 3% per annum simple interest respectively. If the interest earned from each part after one year is equal, what is the sum invested at 3%?
- ₹ 600
- ₹ 800
- ₹ 1200
- ₹ 400
Correct answer: ₹ 400
Solution
If the interest from each part is equal after one year, then the principals are inversely proportional to the rates: \(P_1:P_2:P_3 = \frac{1}{1}:\frac{1}{2}:\frac{1}{3} = 6:3:2\). The total is 2200, so the 3% part is \(\frac{2}{11}\times 2200 = 400\).
