A 800 turn coil of effective area 0.05 m² is kept perpendicular to a magnetic field 5 × 10⁻³ T. When the plane of the coil is rotated by 90° around any of its coplanar axis in 0.1 s, the emf induced in the coil will be:
- 2 V
- 0.2 V
- 2 × 10⁻³ V
- 0.02 V
Correct answer: 0.2 V
Solution
The induced emf is calculated using Faraday's law: emf = -dΦ/dt, where Φ = NBAcosθ. Initially, θ = 0° (cosθ = 1), and after rotation by 90°, θ = 90° (cosθ = 0). Change in flux ΔΦ = NBA(1 - 0) = NBA. Substituting N = 800, B = 5 × 10⁻³ T, A = 0.05 m², and time t = 0.1 s, emf = (800 × 5 × 10⁻³ × 0.05) / 0.1 = 0.2 V.
