In a coil of area $2\times 10\,\text{cm}^2$ and 10 turns, a magnetic field perpendicular to the plane is changing at the rate of $8\times 10\,\text{gauss s}^{-1}$. If the resistance of the coil is $20\,\Omega$, the current in the coil will be:
- 5 amp
- 0.5 amp
- 0.05 amp
- $8\times 10^5$ amp
Correct answer: 5 amp
Solution
The induced emf is $\mathcal{E}=N A \frac{dB}{dt}$. After converting units, the emf comes out to be $100\,\text{V}$, and the current is $I=\mathcal{E}/R=100/20=5\,\text{A}$.
