Chemical process of digestion starts in the oral cavity by the hydrolytic action of the carbohydrate splitting enzyme, the salivary amylase. Carbohydrates in the chyme are hydrolysed by pancreatic amylase into disaccharides.
- Rennin is an enzyme that is essential for the protein digestion.
- It is active in acidic medium and inactive in normal gastric juice of adult.
- Trypsinogen is inactive form and we know that it remains inactive until it is secreted from the duodenum mucosa.
- At the stage that changes the inactive pancreatic secretion trypsinogen to trypsin.
Correct answer: It is active in acidic medium and inactive in normal gastric juice of adult.
Solution
Rennin (chymosin) helps curdle milk and is active in acidic conditions, especially in infants. In adults, normal gastric juice does not support its role, so it is considered inactive there.
