Material A has density 1500 kg/m³ and material B has density 2000 kg/m³. The heat capacity of 8 unit-volumes of A equals the heat capacity of 12 unit-volumes of B. Find the ratio of the specific heats of A to B.

  1. 1: 2
  2. 3: 1
  3. 3: 2
  4. 2: 1

Correct answer: 2: 1

Solution

sA/sB = (12 rhoB)/(8 rhoA) = (12*2000)/(8*1500) = 2, i.e. 2: 1.
