A body performs uniform circular motion in a vertical plane. If at the topmost point of the circle its linear velocity vector v is directed towards the west, what is the direction of its angular velocity vector omega?

Solution

At the top, the position vector r points up and v points west; from v = omega x r, omega must point south (so that omega x r gives west).
