A block of wood of mass 9.8 kg hangs from a string. A bullet of mass 200 g moving horizontally at 100 m/s strikes and embeds itself in the block. Find the maximum height the block rises. (g = 10 m/s²)

Correct answer: 0.2 m

Solution

V = (0.2*100)/(9.8+0.2) = 20/10 = 2 m/s. h = V²/(2g) = 4/20 = 0.2 m.
