If all intermolecular attractions were removed, what volume would be occupied by the molecules present in 4.5 g of water at standard temperature and pressure?

  1. 5.6 litre
  2. 4.5 litre
  3. 11.2 litre
  4. 6.5 litre

Correct answer: 5.6 litre

Solution

If intermolecular attractions vanish the molecules behave as an ideal gas at STP. 4.5 g water = 0.25 mol, occupying 0.25*22.4 = 5.6 litre.
