Solve the equation |2x + 5| = 2 for x.
- x = -3/2 or x = -7/2
- x = 3/2 or x = 7/2
- x = -3/2 only
- x = -7/2 only
Correct answer: x = -3/2 or x = -7/2
Solution
|2x + 5| = 2 means 2x + 5 = 2 or 2x + 5 = -2. First: 2x = -3, x = -3/2. Second: 2x = -7, x = -7/2.
