A particle moves clockwise along the ellipse x²/100 + y²/25 = 1. At the point (-8, 3) it leaves the orbit and continues along the tangent to the ellipse at that point. Where does this straight-line path meet the y-axis?

Solution
The tangent at (-8,3) is -8x/100 + 3y/25 = 1; setting x = 0 gives y = 25/3, so it crosses at (0, 25/3).
