Suppose f(x) is differentiable at x = 1 and lim(h→0) [1/h] f(1 + h) = 5, then f'(1) equals

  1. 3
  2. 4
  3. 5
  4. 6

Correct answer: 5

Solution

For lim_{h->0} f(1+h)/h to be finite, f(1)=0. Then f(1+h)/h = [f(1+h)-f(1)]/h -> f'(1). Hence f'(1)=5.
