Find the area enclosed by the graphs of y = |x - 1| and y = 3 - |x|.
- 3 square units
- 2 square units
- 4 square units
- 5 square units
Correct answer: 4 square units
Solution
The curves y=|x-1| and y=3-|x| enclose a region; integrating (3-|x|)-|x-1| over where it is positive (from x=-1 to x=2) gives total area 4 square units.
