Find the shortest distance between the two parallel lines 6x + 8y + 15 = 0 and 3x + 4y + 9 = 0.

Solution

Write 6x+8y+15=0 as 3x+4y+7.5=0. Distance between parallel lines = |7.5-9|/sqrt(3^2+4^2) = 1.5/5 = 3/10.
