What volume (in litres) of 98% w/w sulphuric acid (density = 1.8 g/mL) is needed so that, after dilution, it yields 12.6 L of 2.0 M H2SO4 solution?
- 1.4 L
- 1.0 L
- 2.8 L
- 0.7 L
Correct answer: 1.4 L
Solution
The concentrated acid is ~18 M; to supply 25.2 mol of H2SO4 you need 25.2/18 = 1.4 L of concentrated acid.
