When an electric current is passed through acidified water, 112 mL of hydrogen gas is obtained at the cathode at STP in 965 s. What is the current, in amperes?
- 1.0
- 0.5
- 0.1
- 2.0
Correct answer: 1.0
Solution
112 mL H2 at STP = 0.112/22.4 = 0.005 mol, needing 2 x 0.005 = 0.01 mol electrons = 965 C. I = Q/t = 965/965 = 1.0 A.
