A battery of EMF 6 V and internal resistance 2 ohm drives a current of 1 A through a load. If two identical such batteries are joined in series across the same load, what current now flows through the load?

Solution

The load is 4 ohm; two batteries in series give 12 V across (4 + 4) ohm = 8 ohm, so I = 1.5 A.
