A golf ball is dropped from rest from the top of a very tall building. What is the position (displacement in m) of the ball after 2.00 s? (Take g = 9.8 m/s², downward as negative.)

Correct answer: -19.6

Solution

s = -(1/2)(9.8)(2²) = -(1/2)(9.8)(4) = -19.6 m, so the ball is 19.6 m below the starting point.
