A ball of mass 2 kg is dropped from the top of a building 20 m tall. A constant horizontal wind applies a force of 8 N on the ball throughout its fall. What is the horizontal range of the ball when it hits the ground?
- 4 m
- 8 m
- 16 m
- 2 m
Correct answer: 8 m
Solution
Vertical: h = (1/2)*g*t² => 20 = (1/2)*10*t² => t = 2 s. Horizontal: aₕ = F/m = 8/2 = 4 m/s². Range = (1/2)*4*(2)² = 8 m.
