Find the remainder when the polynomial P(x) = x⁴ - 3x² + 2x + 1 is divided by (x - 1).

  1. 0
  2. 1
  3. 2
  4. 3

Correct answer: 1

Solution

By the Remainder Theorem, the remainder on dividing P(x) by (x - 1) is P(1). P(1) = 1 - 3 + 2 + 1 = 1. So the remainder is 1.
