A circle has radius 30 cm. If a chord of the circle is also 30 cm long, find the length of the smaller (minor) arc cut off by this chord.

  1. 10*pi cm
  2. 5*pi cm
  3. 15*pi cm
  4. 20*pi cm

Correct answer: 10*pi cm

Solution

From 30 = 2*30*sin(theta/2), sin(theta/2) = 1/2 so theta = 60 deg = pi/3; arc length = 30*(pi/3) = 10*pi cm.
