One litre of milk has mass 1.035 kg. The butter fat content is 4% by volume of the milk and has density 875 kg/m³. If the fat-free skimmed milk has density 'x' g/mL, find x.
- 1.0
- 1.02
- 1.03
- 1.04
Correct answer: 1.04
Solution
Mass of fat = 40 mL * 0.875 g/mL = 35 g; skimmed mass = 1035 - 35 = 1000 g over 960 mL gives 1.04 g/mL.
