Two litres of 9.8% w/w H2SO4 solution (density 1.5 g/mL) is mixed with three litres of 1 M KOH. After reaction, give the concentration of excess H+ if the mixture is acidic, or excess OH- if it is basic, in the final solution. (M of H2SO4 = 98)
- 3/5
- 0
- 3/10
- 2/5
Correct answer: 3/5
Solution
H2SO4 gives 6 mol H+ versus 3 mol OH-, leaving 3 mol H+ excess in 5 L, so [H+] = 3/5 = 0.6 M.
