One mole of A(g) is placed in a closed rigid 1 litre vessel at constant temperature, where the equilibria A(g) <-> B(g) + C(g) (Kc1) and C(g) <-> D(g) + B(g) (Kc2) are established. The total pressure at equilibrium is twice the initial pressure, and [C]eq / [B]eq = 1/5. Find Kc2 / Kc1.
- 4
- 2
- 1/4
- 5
Correct answer: 4
Solution
From total moles = 2 we get x + y = 1, and [C]/[B] = (x-y)/(x+y) = 1/5 gives x = 0.6, y = 0.4; then Kc1 = [B][C]/[A] = 0.5 and Kc2 = [D][B]/[C] = 2, so the ratio is 4.
