The ground floor is numbered 1, the floor above it is numbered 2, and so on up to the topmost floor, numbered 4. There are two flats on each floor—Flat 1 and Flat 2 from west to east, such that Flat 1 is west of Flat 2. Flat 1 of the second floor is exactly above Flat 1 of the first floor and exactly below Flat 1 of the third floor; the other flats are placed in the same way. 1. U lives west of A. 2. Solution
The clues force W and X into Flat 1 on different floors, with Z between them. Since X is just above Y, Y must occupy the flat directly below X. After satisfying all conditions, Flat 1 of the third floor is occupied by Y.
