ExamsIBPS POReasoning

Eight people U, W, X, Y, Z, A, B, and C live on four different floors of a building. Two people live on each floor, but not necessarily in the same order. The ground floor is numbered 1, the floor above it is numbered 2, and so on up to the topmost floor, numbered 4. There are two flats on each floor—Flat 1 and Flat 2 from west to east, such that Flat 1 is west of Flat 2. Flat 1 of the second floor is exactly above Flat 1 of the first floor and exactly below Flat 1 of the third floor; the other flats are placed in the same way. 1. U lives west of A. 2. A and Z live in an even flat but not on an even floor. 3. C does not live immediately next to A. 4. X lives in a flat that is just above the flat in which Y lives. 5. Z lives on the floor between the floors of W and X, but both W and X live in Flat 1. Who among the following lives in Flat 1 of the third floor?

  1. Y
  2. W
  3. B
  4. X

Correct answer: Y

Solution

The clues force W and X into Flat 1 on different floors, with Z between them. Since X is just above Y, Y must occupy the flat directly below X. After satisfying all conditions, Flat 1 of the third floor is occupied by Y.
