Eight persons — P, Q, R, S, W, X, Y and Z — are living in a four-storey building such that the ground floor is numbered 1, the floor immediately above floor 1 is numbered 2, and so on. Each floor has two flats: flat 1 and flat 2. Flat 2 is to the east of flat 1. Flat 1 of floor 2 is immediately above flat 1 of floor 1 and immediately below flat 1 of floor 3, and similarly for flat 2. S lives in an even-numbered flat. Two floors are between the floors on which S and Y live. R lives two floors above the floor on which Y lives. Q lives below R but above W. P and X live in the same flat as Z but below the floor on which Z lives. P and Q do not live on the same floor. Who among the following lives on an even-numbered floor? A) R B) R C) W D) Y

Solution
Since S lives in an even-numbered flat and there are two floors between S and Y, their floors must be separated by three levels. R is two floors above Y, so R must occupy a higher floor that can be determined from this spacing.
