For a completely submerged body with centre of gravity \(G\) and centre of buoyancy \(B\), the condition of stability will be
- G is located below B
- G is located above B
- G and B are coincident
- independent of the locations of G and B
Correct answer: G is located below B
Solution
For a completely submerged body, stable equilibrium requires that the centre of gravity be below the centre of buoyancy. In that case, a small tilt produces a restoring moment.
