A straight line is fitted to a data set c6x, ye7. The line intercepts the abscissa at \(\ln x = 0.1\) and has a slope of \(-0.02\). What is the value of \(y\) at \(x = 5\) from the fit?

Correct answer: 0.014
Solution
The fitted line is linear in \(\ln x\). Since it crosses the x-axis at \(\ln x=0.1\), the line can be written as \(y=m(\ln x-0.1)\) with slope \(m=-0.02\). Substituting \(x=5\) gives \(y=-0.02(\ln 5-0.1)\approx 0.014\).
