The equivalent impedance \(Z_{eq}\) for the infinite ladder circuit shown in the figure is

  1. \(j12\,\Omega\)
  2. \(-j12\,\Omega\)
  3. \(j13\,\Omega\)
  4. \(13\,\Omega\)

Correct answer: \(j12\,\Omega\)

Solution

Infinite ladder circuits are solved by exploiting the fact that the remaining network after the first section has the same equivalent impedance as the whole network. This gives an algebraic equation for \(Z_{eq}\), whose valid solution is \(j12\,\Omega\).
